Handmade natural and dyed kozo paper mounted on wood lattice panels with traditional Japanese paper hinges 64 x 153 inches overall; folds to 65 x 38 ¼ x 5 inches.

Summer is a 4 panel folding screen mounted on a wooden lattice using traditional Japanese techniques. The surface paper was paper pulp painted during a residency at the Awagami Paper Factory in Tokushima, Japan in 2018 by Daniel Heyman. The mounting was done by by Shigeji Fujiware in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan in 2018. All paper material is made from Japanese kozo (mulberry) fiber. The folding screen shows a humming bird flying towards a spire of foxgloves flowering in a summer lush summer garden. This project was funded with grants from Princeton University, Lewis Center for the Arts and the Rhode Island School of Design.
